Redknapp wants to help Portsmouth: promises Kanu talk

Former Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has told us that he will talk to Nwankwo Kanu in a bid to help save the club.

 Pompey face extinction after administrator Trevor Birch set a deadline of August 10 for them to get their finances in order.

 Kanu, 35, has lodged a claim for £3 million in pay while defender Tal Ben Haim, 30, is also owed a similar amount by the cash-strapped Fratton Park outfit.

 Redknapp signed Kanu from West Brom in 2006 during his time in charge on the South Coast, and is eager to speak to the Nigerian in the hope of reaching a comprimise that might help the club. He told us: "I will be ringing Kanu today to see if there is anything I can do.

 I signed him for Portsmouth on a one-year contract and Tony Adams told me: 'You must be mad, he is finished'. Six years later, he is still there.

 "In the case of Tal Ben Haim, if players have a contract and are owed money, you can see why they think they should get it. But if the club closes down they won't get a penny.

 They need to think hard about that.

" Redknapp also expressed hope that an investor to inject money into Portsmouth could be found, saying the club had spiralled since former owner Milan Mandric left Fratton Park.

 He continued: "Portsmouth has got to be saved. It's a great club with great traditions. It would be a disaster if this club went out of business.

 "It has great fans to the extent that, if you live in Portsmouth, you are a Portsmouth supporter.

 If you walk around in that town, you don't see people wearing Manchester United or Arsenal shirts.

 "It is soul-destroying to see them in this predicament, and there must be a group of people out there or someone who could take over the club so cheaply and save them.

 "I would love to see someone do that. Surely it cannot happen that Portsmouth go out of business.

 If someone did come in, the club could be resurrected quickly. It wouldn't take a lot to get it going again.

 "I remember when Milan came in and bought the club all those years ago, they were looking to lock the gates then and go into administration - but he turned it all around and made it work.

 "When he sold the club, it spiralled out of control.

 Balram Chainrai put a lot of money in, but he must think it is the worst investment he ever made in his life. But now it just needs some people who understand football and who can work with the players."

Official: Harry Redknapp Quits as Tottenham Boss

Harry Redknapp leaves Tottenham Hotspur manager’s job Harry Redknapp has left Tottenham after almost four years in charge.

 Redknapp, who was heavily linked with the England job before the Football Association opted for Roy Hodgson, had denied speculation that he had resigned on Tuesday. 

The 65-year-old had a year left on his contract but reportedly failed to agree a new deal with chairman Daniel Levy.

 This source suggests that David Moyes is favourite to take over from Harry Redknapp at White Hart Lane but is reportedly yet to be subject to an approach from the North London club.

 Having led Spurs to two top four finishes and a Champions League quarter-final one would have thought that Levy would wish to keep Redknapp at the helm but this doesn’t appear to be the case as the 65 year old has grown increasingly exasperated by the length of time being taken over any new contract offer.

 Harry Redknapp was strongly linked with the England manager’s post before it was handed to Roy Hodgson and perhaps the relationship between the Tottenham manager and the club’s owner suffered as a result.

Redknapp set to leave

Manager Harry Redknapp is expected to leave Tottenham after failing to agree a new contract at the club, according to our news source.

 Redknapp, 65, held crunch talks with chairman Daniel Levy on Wednesday in the hope of agreeing a new deal, but they appear to have resulted in the end of his three-and-a-half year reign at White Hart Lane.

 The former West Ham boss failed to lead the club into the Champions League having finished fourth, but only because London rivals Chelsea picked up the trophy and gained automatic entry into the tournament.

 Redknapp refused to confirm the news to the press- claiming he ''had nothing to say'' - while a Spurs official said: "We have nothing to say as yet, we have not been told what has happened between the manger and the chairman.

" However, sources close to Redknapp said: "It's no surprise if he has left the club, that was to be expected.

 He wanted a new three-year contract, but he also wanted a number of clauses in his current contract changed and updated. "But that was never going to happen. 

Daniel Levy has a new training ground to pay for, budgets for new players, and the club have failed to qualify for the Champions League to help pay for them. "Daniel also felt let down as Harry wanted the England job, and wouldn't talk about a new contract when that looked a possibility.

 But Daniel backed him through the tax case, helped him on other matters, and felt let down, and was not inclined to offer a new contract.

 "Harry had backed himself into a corner demanding a new deal saying he couldn't go into the final year of his existing contract." Redknapp had called up Wayne Rooney's agent Paul Stretford after dropping First Artist Management and Phil Smith in an attempt to force through a new contract.

 But preliminary meetings between Stretford and the Spurs board met with little progress for the Redknapp camp. our suorce added "David Moyes is on his last year of his contract, but it might suit him, but it didn't suit Harry. The key issue for Spurs was failing to reach the Champions League. 

Some might say it wasn't his fault as he finished fourth, but at one stage Spurs were 13 points ahead and blew it around the time Harry was linked with the England job. "Harry got sucked into believing he would get it, mostly by the media pushing him, but the FA have not done him any favours, they should have come out and said he wasn't under consideration.

" The news, if confirmed officially, will see more speculation over the futures of Tottenham's star players such as Luka Modric and Gareth Bale. Redknapp spoke to ESPN earlier this week and he played down reports that there was a rift with Levy and that he had already resigned. Redknapp told ESPN: "I have no problem with the chairman, despite what is being said. 

It is not true what is being said, that I have a problem with Daniel. I don't.

 "I haven't resigned, and I have no idea why it is being suggested that I have resigned. This is an outrage; an absolute liberty for people to be putting around this kind of rumour on the internet. It is not true, there is not a chance I will resign. Why should I? I have a year left on my contract."

Redknapp angered by Tottenham quit rumours

Harry Redknapp has moved to put an end to rumours suggesting he has resigned from his post at Tottenham, claiming such an action has not crossed his mind.

 Redknapp's future has been the subject of much debate for the best part of four months, with the former Portsmouth boss originally the favourite to replace Fabio Capello as England manager when the Italian quit in February.

 On Tuesday, claims that the 65-year-old had quit his post at White Hart Lane dominated social networking websites but Redknapp reacted angrily when questioned about the whispers.

 "No, I haven't resigned, and I have no idea why it is being suggested that I have resigned," Redknapp told ESPN. "This is an outrage; an absolute liberty for people to be putting around this kind of rumour on the internet.

 "It is not true, there is not a chance I will resign. Why should I? I have a year left on my contract."
