Inter Milan in talks to sign Man City midfielder

Inter Milan have entered negotiations to sign Manchester City anchorman Nigel de Jong, according to reports in Italy

De Jong, who moved to City from Hamburg in 2009, managed just 11 Premier League starts last season, prompting doubts over his long-term future at the Etihad Stadium.

The Netherlands international expressed his desire to continue his career at City last week, but they reports that Inter Milan have already entered talks over a move for the midfielder, who is valued between £6.4m and £8m.

Inter, who are desperate for a return to Champions League football after finishing sixth last season, believe de Jong could be persuaded to move to the San Siro on the advice of international team-mate Wesley Sneijder.

Modric to tell Tottenham it's over

Luka Modric is ready to confirm he wants to quit Tottenham.

Croatia midfielder Modric's representatives are hoping for a meeting with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy next week, at which they will make the player's wishes clear.

Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain are all keen on Modric, and managerless Spurs face a second successive summer of battling to keep him.

Levy held firm last summer, even after Modric admitted publicly that he wanted to go to Chelsea and Spurs are bracing themselves for another saga as the 26-year-old and his representatives prepare to raise the stakes.

Tottenham also face a battle to keep winger Gareth Bale - especially as there could be a dressing room backlash if Andre Villas-Boas is named as manager.

Players are understood to be wary of the prospect of Villas-Boas succeeding Harry Redknapp, because the Portuguese struggled at Chelsea last season before being axed after just nine months.

Once he was gone, the Blues won the FA Cup and European Cup under interim, and now permanent, boss Roberto Di Matteo.

Arsenal close in on Giroud signing

Arsenal are on the brink of completing a move for Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud, worth a reported 12 million pounds.

Montpellier manager Rene Girard revealed that the north London club had stepped up their interest in the 25-year-old on Wednesday, and it is now believed that Arsene Wenger is set to announce the second addition to a new-look attack with the Frenchman joining Lukas Podolski in Arsenal's new strike force.

Arsenal were not alone in trying to secure the services of Giroud, but Girard revealed the Londoners were the front runners to sign the striker.

The Frenchman is in Laurent Blanc's squad for Euro 2012 but was an unused substitute during Monday's 1-1 draw with England.
