Hazard not getting carried away after impressive Premier League debut for Chelsea

Chelsea's £32 million attacker, Eden Hazard, is refusing to get carried away following a dream debut for the Blues in their first Premier League match of the season, a 2-0 win at Wigan on Sunday.

The former Lille man laid on Branislav Ivanovic’s opening goal at the DW stadium, and then won a penalty which was converted by Frank Lampard.

He was substituted midway through the second half for fellow new signing Oscar and, despite impressing both Lampard and his manager, Roberto Di Matteo, the 21-year-old says that he still has parts of his game to improve on.

"There are still things to perfect," he told reporters . "In the second half, I lost important balls. At the start of the match, it was very good. "That's what's demanded of me: being decisive.

It's very good and I hope it continues like that." Hazard will be looking to continue his impressive start to his Chelsea career when the Blues visit newly-promoted Reading in midweek.

Chelsea to Sign Nigeria international before Man city date

Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Wigan Athletic forward Victor Moses after talks between the clubs.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan met Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay on Tuesday as the clubs attempted to agree a deal for the 21-year-old.

It is understood Chelsea have been told to match Wigan's £8.5m valuation for Moses or walk away from the deal.

Chelsea remain hopeful of including Moses in their Community Shield squad to face Manchester City on Sunday

. Having started some way apart in their valuations of the former England Under-21 international, the clubs appear to be close to agreeing terms.

Wigan have dropped their asking price from an initial £10m to a figure Chelsea now consider more reasonable.

Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo is understood to be extremely keen to bring in Moses, who scored six Premier League goals last season, but owner Roman Abramovich will have the final say.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has said that while reluctant to see Moses leave, the club will not stand in his way if he wants to play for a bigger club.

Chelsea closing in on Moses deal

Chelsea are within touching distance of the signing of Victor Moses from Wigan, with the Blues looking to tie up a deal in time for this Sunday's Community Shield clash with Manchester City.

We can disclose that Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay contacted Wigan chairman Dave Whelan on Monday to try to thrash out an agreement, though the Latics rejected the latest offer for their prized asset.

However, it still appears likely that Moses, 21, will end up at Stamford Bridge as the Champions League winners are thought to be ready to pay Whelan's asking price of £8.5 million after much negotiation.

The two clubs are not far apart in their current valuations and the former England Under-21 international, who now plays for Nigeria at senior level, wants to move to West London.

While losing Moses would be a major blow for Wigan, Whelan says he won't stand in the player's way providing the £8.5 million fee - down from an initial £10 million price tag - is met.

"I have spoken to Chelsea's chief executive and they are easy to deal with, we have told them the price and they will come back and agree it or not," Whelan told reporters. "We would much prefer the player to sign a new contract and stay but he wants to go to Chelsea and its a good club so we cannot stand in his way."

Chelsea are also weighing up whether to make an offer for Bayer Leverkusen's Andre Schurrle, as Roberto Di Matteo looks to bolster his attacking options following the departures of Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou this summer.

Schurrle would cost in the region of £25 million and provides a more realistic alternative to Porto striker Hulk, whose hefty price tag of close to €60 million remains an obstacle to any potential move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea increase Victor Moses bid

Chelsea have lodged a new bid for Wigan striker Victor Moses that could be worth up to £9million.

Wigan have rejected three lower offers, which have also included taking Josh McEachran or Romelu Lukaku on loan from Chelsea.

Moses, 21, has one year left on his contract and is valued at more than £10m by chairman Dave Whelan, who is interested only in a cash deal.

It is understood the two clubs are close to reaching an agreement, with Chelsea prepared to pay £6m up front and another £3m in performance-related add-ons.

Chelsea have bid for a number of attacking players over the summer, including Hulk, Willian, Andre Schurrle and Robert Lewandowski, but Moses appeals to them because of his potential and the fact he will also qualify as a home-grown player for the Champions League.

Thorgan Hazard will join his older brother Eden at Stamford Bridge after Chelsea last night confirmed his signing from Lens.

Whelan: Blues must pay £10m for Moses

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has issued an ultimatum to Chelsea to meet his £10 million valuation on Victor Moses or end their pursuit of the player.

Whelan has rejected Chelsea's approaches three times and now claims he has reached the end of the line.

"They need to pay the brass up front, we don't want any part exchange deals they have offered," he said.

Chelsea have so far offered £4 million and a choice of one of their fringe players either on loan, or a player to the value of that sum.

"Victor is one of the most exciting young talents around so little wonder Chelsea want him, but if they want him they are going to have to pay the price," Whelan said.

"I shall be finding out today whether Chelsea will pay cash because we are not interested in picking up one of their players on loan or in part exchange.

"They know the price for Moses, we are looking to reach £10 million if that means £8 million cash and some add-ons, that fine, as the lad knows that we want him to stay but that we won't stand in his way either.

"I don't like standing in the way of a young player who can make the jump to one of Europe's great clubs and play well for them, I would just wish him all the best.

"But really we don't want him to go, he will be worth £15 million or £20 million after a few months with a club like Chelsea. He has a year left on his contract, we have offered him a new one, but we can understand why he would want to play for Chelsea, although I must say there are other clubs sniffing around too.

"This boy has wonderful ability and that has been helped by Roberto who has brought him along as a player, as he does all the coaching himself.

That is something the clubs discuss," Blues boss Di Matteo said when asked about Chelsea's interest in Moses this week.

"At the moment he is a Wigan player. He had a good season last season. He is a young, interesting prospect."

Di Matteo to capture £10m man Victor Moses in next 24 hours

Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo wants to push through the capture of Wigan’s Victor Moses in the next 24 hours - in a deal worth up to £10million.

Di Matteo’s squad have started pre-season training and his money men are also back in business and poised to make a new offer that the Latics are likely to accept.

The first deal revealed stalled because Chelsea put in a lower offer than Wigan chairman Dave Whelan could accept but now the double winners are getting serious.

Chelsea’s offer is expected to be a guaranteed £7million-plus with some extras to take the sum for the young Nigerian attacker up to £10m.

Wigan will insist on a big sum up front as Moses’ old club Crystal Palace are due around 20 per cent of the profit - and also want the money badly for their own re-building. Moses wants to go to a top club and the chance of competing for a start at Chelsea appeals to him.

Liverpool have been linked but are yet to make an official move.

Meanwhile, Di Matteo welcomed his Chelsea stars back to pre-season training on Thursday, insisting: "Everyone will have a part to play this season."

Wigan warn Liverpool and Chelsea – Moses worth £12m

Liverpool and Chelsea have been told they will have to offer at least £12million to land Wigan striker Victor Moses.

Chelsea had a £6m bid for the frontman rejected while new Anfield chief Brendan Rodgers is also on the trail of the 21-year-old.

But Wigan owner Dave Whelan will play hardball over the fee in order to get the best possible deal for the Latics. Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is reluctant to lose one of his star assets but accepts the club's need to sell to survive outweighs his team-building plans.

But Whelan and Martinez are pointing to the £9.5m they received from Aston Villa for Charles N'Zogbia last summer to help set the benchmark figure for Moses, who has chosen to play for homeland Nigeria despite playing for England at youth and under-21 level.

Wigan will argue that Moses' potential and youth makes him a far more valuable asset than N'Zogbia and that the £12m fee is not only realistic but also a firm stand they will not back down from, putting the onus back on both Chelsea and Liverpool.

Everton’s Victor Anichebe to replace Victor Moses at Wigan

With the beginning of the 2012/13 English Premier League season about 60 days away, transfer dealings are going up a notch.

And as Wigan are readying themselves for the loss of their inspirational winger Victor Moses to one of the top clubs in the Premiership, they have identified another Nigerian, Everton’s Victor Anichebe as his possible replacement.

Anichebe has been plagued by a lot of injuries but at just 24 years old, the Roberto Martinez side might be willing to take the risk.

Anichebe has made 135 appearances in all competitions, mostly as a substitute and has scored 18 goals since he made his debut in the 2005/06 season.

Though mostly he has been played on the wings by Everton’s coach David Moyes. And rated at £6million, he will be a bargain if Dave Whelan gets his way by selling Moses for £10 million and above.

Moses has one year left on his contract after joining from Crystal Palace for £2.5million in 2010.

“We’ve made him a very good offer involving a doubling of his wages over three years,” said Dave Whelan.

It’s down to whether the lad listens to sense or his agent,” Whelan added. But Moses is keeping his cool over all the speculation and said,

I’ve heard a lot of offers are on the table. Wigan have the final say but, for me, the highest bidder would take the day. But right now I’m a Wigan man.”

Wigan rejects Chelsea offer for Moses

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has slammed Chelsea for their 'rubbish' offer for striker Victor Moses.

The Nigeria international has been with the club since 2010, and has netted eight times in 72 league appearances for the Greater Manchester club.

The 21-year-old played a major role in Wigan's survival last season, as Roberto Martinez's side avoided relegation from the Premier League yet again with a late surge in form.

The former JJB owner has accused the Champions League winners of attempting to take advantage of Moses’ contractual position, as the former Crystal Palace man only has 12 months left on his current deal.

"Number one, they have made an offer, and number two, they have not made a big enough offer," he revealed. "That is where it lies. The offer that Chelsea have made is no good. It is way too low.

It is rubbish. If the price is right we would actually consider letting him go, yes, we have to do that.

"But I think that it is the agent who will not allow him to sign an extension to his contract and he has another 12 months to run on it.

"I think that the lad really needs another 12 months here at Wigan under Roberto for his own sake.

That is what he does need so he can keep developing. According to reports, Wigan would be looking for at least £10 million for their player, but Whelan has revealed the bid was under £4m.

"He played ever so well when we played Chelsea when we went down to Stamford Bridge but he does need another year here at Wigan," he continued.

"We can only tell him that. It is his agent who dominates everything and all his agent wants is money.

"I have said to Chelsea ‘thank-you for your offer but no’. What they are offering is not enough.

I have not put a price-tag on Victor. "But let's say that what Chelsea have offered is a lot less than £4m. That is absolutely stupid."
