Arsenal & Chelsea Go Head to Head In £11m South American Chase

Emirates Stadium and Stamford Bridge sides want La Liga forward. CHELSEA have joined Arsenal in the race for Malaga striker Salomon Rondon.

 The Blues are reported to have watched the Venezuelan in action during his country’s World Cup qualifier against Chile.

 And the Stamford Bridge side will be hoping to beat off competition from their London rivals for the 22-year-old. Although Rondon was Malaga’s top-scorer in La Liga last year, he is likely to leave the club this summer in a big-money transfer.

 According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Rondon is keen on a move to the Premier League and a number of English sides have asked about his availability.

 But Chelsea will be the first to confirm their interest in the starlet, with owner Roman Abramovich thought to be preparing an £11m bid. Arsenal and Chelsea could arguably both well do with attacking alternatives but it’s a little surprising that both London sides would be setting their stalls out for Salomon Rondon.

 The Venezuelan managed a not spectacular return of 11 goals in 40 matches last term but did help to guide big spenders Malaga to a maiden Champions League berth in the process.

 Arsene Wenger certainly overly depends on Robin Van Persie for firepower and it seems he doesn’t get much in the way of effective support from Marouane Chamakh, Gervinho and Park Chu-Young.

 Having brought in Lukas Podolski the Gunners may look to add another option to the Arsenal pecking order.

 Chelsea have released Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou and are still to see Fernando Torres justify his £50m price-tag and therefore Roman Abramovich’s could well do with an attacking injection of their own.

 Malaga may well feel the time is right to freshen up their own forward line and therefore may be read to sell the former Las Palmas man this summer.
